Venmo is taking the next step in its evolution from peer-to-peer payment application to (very) common verb.
The PayPal-owned business has struck a partnership with Bilt, a housing and neighborhood rewards platform, to bring rent, mortgage payments, and other “neighborhood commerce” into the Venmo app. The partnership is part of Venmo’s strategy of evolving into an “everyday commerce platform” and will expand its reach to Bilt’s network of over 45,000 merchants.
“Our partnership with Bilt marks a pivotal first step in our journey to bring everyday commerce directly into the Venmo experience,” said Diego Scotti, general manager of consumer at PayPal, Venmo’s parent company.
Starting early 2026, Venmo will be added to Bilt’s existing payment options, which includes linked debit and credit cards and ACH.
With Bilt Rewards, rent payments made with the Bilt Mastercard are fee free (though members must use the card at least five times per statement period to get points—and yes, paying rent counts as one of those transactions). The rewards offered on rent payments (one point per dollar) can be transferred or redeemed in several ways (there is a Bilt travel portal, for example). You can also pay rent directly in the Bilt app if your landlord is part of the Bilt Rewards Alliance.
Bilt has been on its own growth journey, with a recent funding round raising its valuation to nearly $11 billion.
“Venmo is one of the most relevant and trusted payment experiences in America, so bringing it into the Bilt ecosystem is a game changer for our members,” said Ankur Jain, Bilt founder and CEO. “Venmo isn’t just a payment method—it’s how millions of people connect and engage with each other every day.”
